Trip #1 Suspended

Today was the day we were scheduled to be on an airplane to Bulgaria to meet our son for the first time.

That trip was canceled 48 hours ago. There is no timetable for it to be rescheduled.

The reason being is the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) pandemic.

Rules and regulations of adopting from Bulgaria requires TWO visits. There are a few things that need to happen between trip #1 and trip #2. Our hands are tied.

This first trip had been the culmination of 7 months of exhausting work.

Paperwork (SO much notarization). Training. Research on trauma. Doctor's appointments. Travel gear. Government approvals.

I'm not kidding here, 100 hoops to jump through.

For every 3 months that a child lives in an orphanage, they lose 1 month of development.

It is so, so vital to get our son here so he could be FLOURISHING with the proper support and care.

Instead, our timeline has been pushed from 12ish months to ??????? months. And he is losing crucial time.

This pandemic is affecting more than workplaces around the globe.

It's more than just a beer punchline. Or Tom Hanks.

It's affecting so many people in so many ways.

Wash your hands.

Self-quarantine.

Be smart.
