COURT

We officially have a court date! Which came to us Monday morning after an early morning wake up call from dying fire alarms. 😑

On October 19th, 2020, we will officially have another son. All the feels. Words cannot describe the overwhelming feelings.  We get the opportunity to give sweet D a life that he would otherwise not get. Are we sad that adoption was needed in his life? Yep. But for him, this is his only chance at getting the therapy and intervention he needs and unconditional love.  If he were to stay in Bulgaria he would be transferred to an adult institution at the age of 7, where he would live out the rest of his life.  In relative terms is he well taken care of right now? We believe so! He appears to have a strong bond with his caregivers and they are oh so sweet with him. Which great news for him- research shows that children who are able to create strong bonds with one adult can create bonds with more adults. But he needs a family unit... we all know this (Right? this is common knowledge). Bulgaria knows this. And as we are excited to be chosen to parent him, it comes with the most primal of losses. D will lose everything that he has ever known his people, his language, his culture. Can you imagine? This will be so hard for D, impossibly hard. There is never ever, ever, an adoption without trauma. D has already experienced trauma and this will be another traumatic event in his life. So while we are excited we are also heartbroken for him.

Right now we are working on getting projects done around the house and gathering last-minute supplies. We believe that we will travel around mid-Novemeber and stay for about 12 days.  I doubt we will be able to do a shorter trip (it is possible sometimes) but we want to be able to meet the very people who have raised him in the last three years.  We want to thank them, we want to get baby pictures and hear stories about him.

We have just a few must-have items left on our registry! Will link it below for those who are interested in taking a peek- I marked a few items as MUST-HAVES! For those of you who have already showered our boy with items, we cannot thank you enough for thinking of our sweet boy. We so appreciate the outpouring love from you all!
